Fetch MCP Server

Official MCP reference server that fetches a URL and returns markdown. Python via uvx. Can reach local IPs — treat as a security risk. SDK 1.x only until the v2 port lands.

## what it does

tl;dr: official reference server. fetch pulls a URL as markdown. Not a production crawler.

Install

uvx mcp-server-fetch

Claude Desktop:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "fetch": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["mcp-server-fetch"]
    }
  }
}

Also: pip install mcp-server-fetch then python -m mcp_server_fetch, or Docker mcp/fetch.

Tool

fetch — url required; max_length (default 5000); start_index to continue; raw skips markdown conversion.

Gotchas

README: obeys robots.txt for model-initiated fetches; --ignore-robots-txt exists. Requires MCP Python SDK 1.x (mcp>=1.29.0,<2). Can hit internal IPs. Related: filesystem MCP, GitHub MCP.
